In front of 500 mayors affected by urban violence which shook France at the beginning of the summer, the government presented measures through the voice of the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne. Also present at the Sorbonne were the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, and the Minister of Solidarity and Families, Aurore Bergé.

Four months after the riots which followed the death of young Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) on June 27, Élisabeth Borne announced a series of measures aimed in particular at responding to a “ crisis of authority » ; the rioters were, in the majority, very young men with little education, she recalled.

Supervision by the military will be considered for young delinquents. The fine for non-compliance with the curfew will be multiplied by five to 750 euros. People who incite violence on social networks may be temporarily banned.

We are going to propose to Parliament to be able to place young delinquents on a compulsory basis in educational units of the judicial protection of young people. In certain cases, we can envisage supervision of young delinquents by soldiers who will be able in particular to transmit values ​​of discipline and surpassing oneself…

An envelope of 100 million euros for “ repair and reconstruction »

For mayors who so wish, municipal police will be able to carry out judicial police acts, Élisabeth Borne also announced.
