After the mailbox madness: Demand for a change in the law

The so-called Construction Act must be torn up to save the postal service in the country. This is what the National Association of Villaägarnas believes, after the increasingly tough conditions that PostNord imposes on community associations.

– If it moves an “Ove” into the area, you have to tear up the decision, we can’t have it, says federal lawyer Lena Södersten.

Collect your mailboxes – or collect the mail yourself. This is the requirement that PostNord increasingly places on residents in townhouse areas or community associations. TV4Nyheterna has told about Mats Tibbelin and his neighbors in Sollentuna who have to travel six kilometers to pick up their mail.

Now the villa owners are demanding that the rules for creating a so-called collection of boxes be simplified. As it is today, an application to the Land Survey may be required, something that costs both time and money.

– If the townhouse owners in the area want to have their mailboxes together, as PostNord suggests, then they should be able to make that decision themselves and not have to go to the Land Survey. It takes at least a year and costs over one hundred thousand kroner, says Lena Södersten.

Must review the regulations

According to the villa owners, the government should now review the regulations in the same way as is now happening in a similar matter – the possibilities of installing common charging boxes for electric vehicles in communities. TV4Nyheterna has unsuccessfully sought infrastructure minister Andreas Carlsson.

– The legislation on which this is based is from the 70s, it is 50 years old. It is high time that people are allowed to make their own decisions. It is enough that a single person is against. Or someone who moves in later. If it moves an “Ove” into the area, you have to tear up the decision, we can’t have it, says Lena Södersten.
