A heavy downpour during Thursday evening caused a football team to seek shelter under a tree – which was then struck by lightning.
Now the father of one of the injured is talking about the shock when he saw his son’s injuries.
– His legs looked blue and his fingers were white, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.
Eight people had to be taken to hospital after a lightning strike on a football pitch in Lidingö outside Stockholm. Three of these have been seriously injured, according to Region Stockholm.
The father of one of the injured, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that the family is in shock.
– My son came to practice and it started to rain a little. It didn’t look like there was going to be a storm, he says.
As the rain grew heavier, the boys sought shelter under a tree.
– Then out of nowhere they are struck by lightning.
“His legs looked blue”
Before the storm began, the boy’s mother had had an ominous feeling. So she went to soccer practice and watched as the lightning struck the tree.
– When he had met, she ran there. Someone took him from the tree, because he couldn’t feel his legs. His legs looked blue and his fingers were white, says the father.
Feeling better
The boy had to be taken to hospital where he was examined.
– Everything looks better. This morning they did checks to see how injured he was, everything looked good.
But despite the happy news for this particular family, the worries after the accident remain.
– I have three other boys at home. One of your children is struck by lightning and sent to the hospital. It’s not a good feeling. My wife is shocked, says the father.
No new information could be provided from the medical service during the morning about the state of the damage.
