An employee of the consulate, a Turkish citizen, was seriously injured in the attack.
– We continue to work closely with the Turkish authorities to investigate what has happened, says Henrik Landerholm to SVT Nyheter.
Previously, there were reports that the perpetrator came to the consulate because of a visa process, and that there was no political motive behind the attack.
– That is the media image that has been conveyed. It is not an image that I have spread before, says Henrik Landerholm.
Concern among embassy staff
The trade union for Sweden’s diplomatic corps testified earlier this week of great concern among members in several places.
Among other things, a concern was expressed that those who are employed locally may be extra vulnerable, as people close to them know that they work at the Swedish embassy and see them as representatives of Sweden.
– Everyone is afraid, said ST chairman Karina Åbom-Enberg earlier this week.
Several employees have also expressed a desire for Sweden to become stricter in approving Koran burnings.
