It was at the end of July this year that the accident occurred, between the E4 and Ytterfälle just south of the town of Härnösand. The 18-year-old, who was 17 at the time, ran his moped over a woman in her 30s who died from her injuries.
The trial was held on December 5 and the 18-year-old was indicted on four counts: causing the death of another felony, gross negligence in traffic, gross drunk driving and illegal driving.
Now he is sentenced on all four charges. Ångermanland District Court states that two hours after the accident, the 18-year-old was still heavily intoxicated with a measured blood alcohol level of 1.34 per thousand.
“Risked other people’s lives”
According to the court, he drove the moped at high speed under the influence of alcohol. He has “through gross negligence shown an apparent indifference to the lives of other people” and “…took a deliberate risk of a serious nature”.
The 18-year-old himself says that he can neither admit nor deny what he was suspected of because he has no memories of the incident.
The sentence is determined to be probation and 220 hours of community service.
