The four-year-old boy was playing in the preschool yard when he got stuck with his reflective vest while riding the slide. He was seriously injured and later died of his injuries.
After the accident, many preschools around the country chose to remove the reflective vests from their operations.
Preschools throughout Sweden have ordered new reflective vests after the accident and there is an extremely long waiting time for new vests. Only in August can Tomebogård’s preschool in Umeå get new vests. But since reflexes are considered important from a safety point of view, the preschool is now testing reflex armbands instead.
– I think it will work well. But it won’t be quite the same as vests, says Margareta Karlsson, childminder.
