The Skellefteå river in Västerbotten seems to have suffered an ecological disaster since the crayfish plague struck with full force. Everything points to the crayfish population being more or less depleted for many years to come. But during yesterday’s trial fishing, at least a little glimmer of hope was lit.
The most common source of infection usually comes from signal crayfish, which are significantly more resistant to the algal fungus in question.
