During the day, world leaders have expressed their support for Rushdie, while several Iranian media instead praise the perpetrator.
The perpetrator, Hadi Mata, a 24-year-old from New Jersey, has not yet given a motive for the act, but on social media he has expressed sympathy for the Iranian regime.
