SVT has reviewed Lovisa’s case in the documentary “Who hurts Lovisa?”.
In recent years, she has, among other things, suffered from severe stomach pains, vomited blood and was tube-fed when she could not swallow food.
When she did not get better from the treatment, her doctor at the Sachsska Children’s Hospital in Stockholm began to suspect that she either harmed herself, or was a victim of child abuse by faking symptoms. It was considered, among other things, that the medical examinations did not show anything wrong and that she had a “disease identity” with an exaggerated interest in her own condition. But also that the mother sometimes “fired on” Lovisa.
In November 2022, she was taken into care by social services, but the preliminary investigation against her mother was later dropped.
Completely different assessment
Today, Lovisa is 19 years old and has had to undergo new examinations at another hospital, which show that she actually has the original diagnosis – Arteria mesenterica superior syndrome. It is a serious disease which simply means that part of the duodenum is pinched between the carotid artery and an artery.
When Lovisa stopped being cared for at Sachsska in the spring of 2023, her doctor wrote in the medical record that they do not support the continued care and do not believe that extensive surgical interventions will solve her health problems. But doctors at the Karolinska hospital in Huddinge make a completely different assessment.
Södersjukhuset, which includes Sachsska Children’s Hospital, has started an investigation into Lovisa’s case following SVT’s review.
The hospital’s chief physician Annelie Liljegren has previously told SVT that the staff is obliged to make a report of concern when there is a concern.
– For the children who might get hurt or where there is abuse or the like, it is extremely important to save those children.
