After several months of teasing, promises and more or less organized leaks, the first smartphone from the Nothing brand is to be announced today. But we already know almost everything about this revolutionary phone.
In a relatively gloomy smartphone market with sales down 10% in one year, the young Nothing brand has been trying for a few months to arouse the curiosity and impatience of its fans. To keep the flame alive, Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing (also behind OnePlus, which he left in 2020) multiplied the leaks and distilled more or less thrilling information on the brand’s first smartphone.
It all started last March, during a first conference streamed on the Web and during which the founder was content to present a rather mysterious design sketch and some screenshots of the software overlay brought to Android soberly dubbed Nothing OS. Nothing more. But things have accelerated for a few days where we now know a lot more about the device that should cause a stir among geeks and tech influencers. And even a little too much, which is likely to spoil any surprise effect during the conference which will be held in London at 5:00 p.m. French time and which you can follow here. Cleverly organized communication operation or youthful error of a young firm that currently only has quite successful wireless headphones on its list? It remains to be seen whether the success will be up to this episodic campaign. And, above all, if the Nothing Phone (1) is as innovative as its designer suggests…
What does the Nothing Phone (1) look like?
The design of the device no longer holds any secrets. Nothing obviously wanted to be transparent at all levels, both in its communication and on the smartphone itself. Also we find a rectangular shape of the most classic. It is on the case that the young brand wants to differentiate itself. The images emanating from Nothing thus show a transparent case, available in white and black, revealing some internal elements of the mobile.
But above all, an official presentation video was posted on Twitter this morning by Kuba Wojciechowski, a leaker specializing in smartphones. We see the mobile from every angle.
We can thus appreciate the presence of many LEDs distributed on the back of the device and whose purpose seems to react according to the reception of notifications or the distribution of music.
What are the technical characteristics of the Nothing Phone (1)?
Here too, we know almost everything about what is hidden under the original hood of the Nothing Phone (1). There are rather classic elements of a mid-range smartphone. Nothing has opted for an Amoled FHD + screen at 120 Hz with 6.55 HDR10 + compatible chips. On the processor side, Nothing bet on a Snapdragon 778G+. A mid-range model released a year ago. Not a thunderbolt but effective enough. It would be supported by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. Or 8 GB and 128 GB Remain the photo sensors or a doubt remains. The device should be equipped with a main sensor of 50 Mpixels and an ultra wide angle of 16 Mpixels. The photo app should help bring out the best. A few examples of snapshots taken with the Nothing Phone (1) were also posted on Twitter.
As for the battery, the device would ship a 4500 mHa model compatible with a 45 W charge. No charger would be delivered in the smartphone box.
What will be the price of the Nothing Phone (1)?
Again, we can rely on information leaks to estimate the price of the Nothing Phone (1). Indeed, at the end of June Amazon Germany displayed the Nothing Phone (1) in its shop. The mid-range smartphone, in its 8-128 GB configuration was thus presented at 470 euros. An 8-256 GB version was indicated at 499 euros and the 12-256 GB version at 549 euros.
When will the Nothing Phone be available (1)
Carl Pei decided to take over for Nothing the marketing model that had caused so much buzz for OnePlus. Also, initially, the Nothing Phone (1) will be accessible through an invitation system. Members of the Nothing community (and financial contributors) will therefore be the first served and will be able to give their loved one an invitation. No official in-store release date is yet scheduled. We may know more this evening during the conference… unless Carl Pei continues to play the card of ambiguity and maintains the vagueness on the production capacities of Nothing and its ability to deliver the copies ordered by the most looking forward to his fans.
