Oscar Pistorius was a big profile during his active time as a sprinter. He participated in the Paralympic Games as well as the Olympic Games for South Africa. Both of his legs were amputated below the knees and Pistorius ran with prosthetics.
In 2013, the sprinter, known as “Bladerunner”, was arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He denied the murder charges but in September 2014 Pistorius was convicted of murder. In 2015, South Africa’s Supreme Court overturned the verdict and he was found guilty of murder. In 2017, the sentence was extended from six years to 13.5 years.
But now he is back in the open. In November, it was announced that he would be paroled on January 5. And today, on Friday morning, the South African authorities announced that Pistorius was allowed to leave prison. Various international news agencies write that.
