It will not be a surprise for anyone. And for good reason: the info has been oozing on the net for months, with great reinforcements of rumors, leaks and predictions, supporting images. Google put an end to this FAU suspense carefully maintained by the specialized press by presenting a new smartphone, the 9a pixel. A logical and expected exit insofar as, as sound, name indicates, this model simply completes the family of Pixel 9 released a few months ago (see our test), as the manufacturer had done previous years with the Pixel 7 and 8. Because it is now the rule among high tech products manufacturers: each year its collection of new models, and too bad for overconsumption and environmental promises.

Cedi says, the newcomer has no shortage of advantages on paper to seduce fans of the Pixel series like those who have resisted the attraction of its competitors in the mid -range. Incidental in the line of the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, it announces a beautiful combination of combination of elegance and power, while providing several significant innovations to replace the 8A pixel – which will also remain a sale for a moment.

Google Pixel 9a: a sober and elegant design

The design of the Pixel 9a remains faithful to the clean and minimalist lines of the Pixel series, but with notable adjustments. The photo block, formerly prominent on the previous versions, is now flattened, giving a more sober and modern set. The slightly wider edges around the screen recall its mid -range positioning, but the absence of thick “chin” on the bottom of the device ensures a uniform and elegant design.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is equipped with the Google Tensor G4 chip, the same as that of Pixel 9, which ensures solid performance, especially for artificial intelligence applications. Associated with 8 GB of RAM, this chip guarantees fluidity in daily tasks, from multitasking to the execution of advanced AI features, such as magic gum or panorama in night vision. In terms of connectivity, it remains in current standards with 6th Wi-Fi (not 7, alas), Bluetooth 5.3 and of course 5G.

The 6.3 -inch Pixel 9A OLED screen claims high light, reaching an impressive peak of 2,700 nits, 35 % more than its predecessor, the 8A pixel. This characteristic should ensure excellent readability, even in direct sunlight. It has a variable refresh rate, between 60 and 120 Hz, promising good fluidity, although less sophisticated than that of high -end smartphones capable of going down to 1 Hz to save the battery.

Google Pixel 9a: A photo module still neat

The photographic component is one of the traditional strengths of Pixel smartphones, and the 9a is no exception. It has a main 48 Mpx sensor with an f/1.7 opening, accompanied by an ultra-angle of 13 Mpx. Although the definition of the main sensor has decreased slightly compared to Pixel 9, Google compensates with software innovations such as the famous “adding” function which allows the photographer to include themselves in group photos afterwards.

On the autonomy side, Google declares that it has significantly improved the battery, with a capacity of 5100 mAh, against 4492 mAh on the 8A pixel. This increase, coupled with software optimization, promises up to 30 hours of use on a single load, or even 100 hours in energy saving mode. Wireless recharge and fast load at 23 W via USB-C are also part of it, although no charger is included. However, a promise to be taken with tweezers because the Pixel 9a uses the G4 chip which is not renowned for its sobriety. And the previous pixels fish significantly by their low autonomy, which rarely exceeds the day in normal use. Only tests in real situations will say if Google has made the progress announced.

In terms of sustainability, Pixel 9a benefits from IP68 certification, guaranteeing protection against water and dust. Above all, Google undertakes to provide seven years of software and security updates, a rare promise in this price range. An excellent argument for users looking for a reliable long -term smartphone.

Available in four colors (black, white, pink and lavender), the Pixel 9a is offered starting price of 549 euros for the 128 GB version (without possibility of extension by SD memory card). The 256 GB version, whose price should be around 609 euros, will be announced soon. It is thus placed in direct competitor of the Samsung Galaxy A56, the Notheing Phone (3A) Pro and the iPhone 16th, much more expensive, however. It only remains to wait for tests to find out if he is a new value for money, like his predecessors.
