After leaving them separate for a long time, Microsoft is finally bringing together Teams and Outlook contacts in the same space. Enough to put an end to the unnecessary duplications which were ruining the daily lives of millions of users.
Microsoft is starting the year 2025 with a very good resolution by putting an end to the duplication of contacts between Teams and Outlook. From now on, correspondent management is brought together in the same workspace. A new feature that ensures more unified use of the contacts tab and facilitates interaction between the two platforms.
According to the company, this solution meets the demand of many users. Some were notably forced to switch from one application to another to find a contact. Furthermore, synchronization between the two applications will be easier, as Microsoft stated: “With the new unified contacts experience, all contact updates are consistently synced across Teams, Outlook, and Microsoft Graph APIs.”
New in Teams/Outlook: a new “unified contacts” tab
In order to best bring together the contact lists of Teams and Outlook, the Redmond firm announced that the latter would now be united “in the unified contact experience”. A new feature available to all users with a Microsoft account, as specified by the company. Furthermore, category labels are also included in the unification of Teams and Outlook, thus providing better use of the interfaces.
For now, Outlook users have already been able to benefit from the benefits of this new function, available since January 6. As for those of Teams, a progressive update until April 30 will put the process in place. If a duplicate contact occurs, Microsoft plans to merge the contact into the unified list. In the event of a new incident, a contact copy will be created with the Teams information and stored in a category called “Teams Conflict” so that the user can easily find the duplicate and resolve the problem. The entire process has been detailed by the firm in a tutorial and a detailed FAQ.
