After last year’s nightmare: Now the farmers are hoping for a better harvest

It is the wheat that will begin to be harvested at the end of next week on the farm Abbotnäs between Katrineholm and Flen.

Many farmers remember last year with horror, when the wet weather destroyed much of the grain harvest.

Lantmännen’s forecast for this year, which came at the beginning of July, points to a normal harvest of 5.4 million tonnes of grain. In that case, it is approximately one million tonnes more than in 2023.

Crucial days

– There is no record harvest going on, but it will be better than last year, he says.

Exactly how the result for each individual farmer will be now depends on the weather in the last period until the first threshers start rolling.

In the clip: Farmer Mattias explains why the weather in the next week plays such a big role in the harvest.
