After Instagram, the Reels land on Facebook. These very short videos are so successful that Meta has decided to post them on its social network… also to walk on the flowerbeds of TikTok.

Launched in France on Instagram in June 2020, Reels are presented in the form of very short videos of a maximum duration of 60 seconds, embellished with music, texts, stickers and special effects. According to Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp), nearly half of the time users spend on Facebook and Instagram is spent watching videos. So why not offer the concept that is already popular on Instagram? This is today done. After a test phase that began in October 2021 in the United States, Reels have been available since February 22 in Facebook’s Android and iOS applications in 175 countries, including France.

And so that no one misses out, Facebook increases their visibility. Reels are thus accessible from a Reel tab, in Stories (already taken from Instagram), in the Watch tab dedicated to videos as well as in the news feed. It will be difficult to avoid them!

Anyone can of course create Reels from Facebook, via the eponymous button placed under the field What’s new ?

Reels: short TikTok-style videos

According to Meta, Reels are the fastest growing video format. Inspired by the TikTok video creation and sharing platform, their arrival on Facebook comes with new tools for creators. So, just like on TikTok (and even Instagram), it’s possible to craft Remixes, Reels based on other Reels, create 60-second videos, and keep drafts. In the coming months, Facebook also plans to roll out video editing tools to help creators who post live videos or longer videos experiment with the different formats. To encourage creators to join its platform and abandon TikTok, its big competitor, Facebook is setting up monetization systems. It will be possible to apply advertising banners.

In the coming months, Facebook also plans to reward creators through the Bonus Reel Play program: “The program allows eligible creators to earn up to $35,000 per month (around 29,000 euros) based on the views of their Reels eligible”, specifies the firm.

The Reels began to be deployed since February 22. At the time of this writing, we were able to take advantage of it during the last update of the Facebook application on Android, but not yet on the iOS version.
