After Galaxy S smartphones, Galaxy Tab S8 tablets are also victims of app slowdown

Samsung’s GOS (Game Optimizing Service) app has struck again! After having plagued the manufacturer’s Galaxy S10 to S22 smartphones, causing a slowdown in performance (throttling) of many apps, it also impacts the new Galaxy Tab S8 tablets.

This is the observation of our colleagues from Android Police, who did the test on the Galaxy Tab S8 + and S8 Ultra tablets. They first ran the Geekbench performance test, then changed the name of the app to trick the system into thinking it was the game Genshin Impact. By rerunning the test, they measured a drop of 18 to 24% in single-core mode and 6 to 11% in multi-core mode. On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S7, S7 FE and S5e tablets are not affected by the name change.

In addition, the throttling observed is less important than on the Galaxy S22, probably because heat dissipation is better on tablets and this parameter is taken into account by the GOS app.

As a result, Geekbench test makers decided to exclude Samsung’s new tablets from their historical benchmark results.

Galaxy S10, S20, S21 and S22 smartphones are also excluded from measurement histories.

However, the situation might get better soon, as Samsung has started rolling out an update for its Galaxy S22s that fixes the Game Optimizing Service issue and gives more control to the user. It is not yet known when it will concern the new tablets.
