After five stops being broadcast on Sundays

TV4’s Efter fem ends with its Sunday venture.
The program is closed with immediate effect, and the very last episode will now be broadcast on Sunday, December 22.
– We want to focus energy and resources on weekdays when the news pulse is higher and we start broadcasting all day, says Viveka Hansson, program director at TV4.

Since spring 2019, the current affairs program Efter fem has been broadcast every weekday afternoon between 5 and 7 pm on TV4. In January last year, it also started to run on Sundays.

But less than a year later, a decision has been made to discontinue the Sunday program.

The staff found out about the closure on Sunday. The reason for the decision has to do with, among other things, that After five Sunday has not reached enough viewers digitally.

– It’s about creating content that is strong both linearly and in play. We try our hand at it. Some programs take a break, others are closed, new ones are added, says Viveka Hansson.

“News day” requires greater resources

The schedule change should not mean that staff are laid off, as TV4’s new investment in “News Day” requires increased resources.

“News Day” starts on 7 January next year. Schedule-wise, the program starts after the end of Nyhetsmorgon at 12 o’clock on the day and then broadcasts until the news broadcast at 7 p.m.

– We want to focus energy and resources on weekdays when the news pulse is higher and we start broadcasting all day. Here we get a strong presence that gives us a unique position among all the streaming services that are available to choose from, says Viveka Hansson.

Instead of Efter fem Sunday, “The Week with After fem” will be broadcast on Sundays.

– It’s an hour of the best from the program during the past week. So the viewers who like Efter fem are not completely lost during the weekend, says Viveka Hansson.
