After Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds wants to bring the forgotten superhero back to the cinema – he hasn’t been on the screen for over 80 years

After Deadpool Ryan Reynolds wants to bring the forgotten superhero

With the billion-dollar hit Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds delivered the most successful superhero film of the year. Now he’s busy again with a costumed guy he wants to take to the cinema. But he doesn’t come from Marvel or DC’s comic book catalog… and he’s not even human.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds wants to bring the superhero Mighty Mouse back to the cinema

According to Variety, Reynolds will work with Paramount Animation to bring the animated adventures of Mighty Mouse to new life. The cheeky one Mixture of Superman and Mickey Mouse made its debut in a short film in 1942, before being followed by a Saturday morning cartoon in the ’60s. Since Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures (1987-1988) we have only heard of the super mouse in comic form.

One is planned full-length animated film – something that Paramount tried unsuccessfully to set up in conjunction with Nickelodeon 20 years ago. Maybe it will work now if Reynolds and his production company Maximum Effort are involved in the project. Matt Lieberman, who already wrote Free Guy, is working on the script about the formidable four-legged friend.

Fun fact: The revival of the 80s cartoon was made by animator Ralph Bakshi (The Lord of the Rings, Fritz the Cat) and appeared in Germany under the funny title Oh Schreck, oh Graus: Die Supermaus on ProSieben.

Mighty Mouse should not be confused with his British colleague Danger Mouse, which is a James Bond parody with rodents.
