A number of lawyers have committed serious breaches and critical voices have wondered what the Bar Association is doing or considering in response.

Now the community is establishing a special supervisory unit.

This is what representatives of the Bar Association write in a debate article in Svenska Dagbladet.

“In step with society’s development, it is essential that the supervision of lawyers be adapted and expanded in terms of preventive work,” the article states.

The special supervisory unit must give the community “conditions to broaden and intensify the supervisory work” on a number of points.

Audits of lawyers must primarily be targeted where the need and risks are judged to be greatest. A supervisory unit also gives the community greater opportunities to initiate and carry out audits on its own initiative.

Furthermore, physical visits to law firms must be made more often – something that is described as in some cases “necessary and the most effective method to be able to carry out an appropriate review”.

The supervisory unit’s review must also be independent in its review, i.e. separate from the community’s other activities.
