Before a construction project can start, an ecological check is always carried out. If protected animal species appear to live in an area, this can mean that a project is postponed or sometimes even canceled at all. Rabbits, hares and the muste-like polecat, ermine and weasel are – just like beavers, badgers, bats and fallow deer – protected species. Previously there was an exception for these rodents, but no longer from September 1.
