Elias Pettersson has started the NHL season in a fantastic way. On the night of Thursday Swedish time, the Swede scored a hat trick in the Vancouver Canucks’ match against the Nashville Predators. It was the second hat trick of his career in the NHL, and the first at the Rogers Center home arena.
Elijah’s success
After his three goals, the 24-year-old is now widely praised.
– It’s a lot of fun to play right now. I feel strong confidence in the whole team. We work hard, we have an excellent coaching staff and everyone is moving in the right direction. Now we are happy tonight and then we will continue like this, he says in a television interview after the match.
Pettersson’s first hat trick came in his rookie season in 2019, then against the Ottawa Senators.

In his opening nine games, Pettersson has now scored 16 points in total (five goals, eleven assists), of which 13 of them came during the month of October. A conclusion which means that Sundsvallsonen is now alone second in the NHL’s scoring behind the New Jersey Devils Jack Hughes. He is also the NHL’s leading scorer so far this season.
Pettersson is praised
Elias Pettersson’s contract with the Canucks expires after the season. But with the successful start, he has put himself in a good position when it comes to negotiations, which paves the way for a new dream contract. Pettersson is expected to stay and extend his contract with Vancouver, with a presumed higher salary.

But Elias is already being rewarded for his hard work. After his great success during the month of October, he has now been named one of the “NHL Star of the Month”. Between Jack Hughes (“first star”) and David Pastrnak (“third star”), Pettersson checks in as “second star”.
– It feels great, of course it’s a great honor for me, he says according to the Vancouver Sun.
