After a stressful day, The Finals is the perfect shooter to relax thanks to SBMM

Most players find SBMM really bad, but in The Finals it works just right. Matchmaking ensures excitement and relaxation exactly when you want it and is therefore different from all others.

What is SBMM? SBMM stands for “skill-based match-making”, i.e. game finding based on skill. When you look for a game, the system tries, in short, to assign you opponents and teammates who have roughly the same skill level as you. This is intended to avoid frustration and primarily ensure fair matches.

How does SBMM work in The Finals? The special thing about The Finals is that you have an independent rating in each mode. So you can be considered a top 100 player in ranked mode, but as an average player in cashout mode.

In cashout mode, 3 teams compete against each other; the first to collect $20,000 wins. To get the money, teams must bring safes to a drop-off location and defend it for about a minute.

It is important to mention that it depends on you and your performance in the respective mode. If you win every game in cashout mode with a lot of kills, you will gradually meet better and better opponents and teammates. So if you’re really just playing the cashout mode for fun, without any ambition to win, you should stagnate at one level.

Who is writing here? In addition to Asian MMORPGs like Swords of Legends Online, MeinMMO author Cedric also plays all sorts of shooters like The Finals, Fortnite and Call of Duty. He now only plays shooters to relax and no longer to be one of the best.

SBMM makes The Finals much better

The matchmaking is well done in The Finals and makes the game a lot of fun for me. In the evening I can relax and play a few rounds in cashout mode. At the weekend I will face more demanding opponents in ranked tournaments.

Thanks to the different ratings for each mode, I can decide for myself what I feel like doing, tension or relaxation. This is exactly what sets The Finals apart from other shooters and makes the game really good.

Why is The Finals the best shooter for relaxation? Because I can decide for myself whether I want to experience a competitive or casual game, I don’t feel as pressured to perform well.

My opponents and I don’t care about the current meta. Yes, here too a “nuke” (a poison barrel with an extra charge of C4) flies through the map, but mostly I meet fathers in the voice chat who want to enjoy their end of work. Nobody plays here to become an e-sports professional.

This experience may be slightly different for everyone depending on how well or poorly you play each mode. If you encounter opponents that are too strong in one mode, just try another mode. I usually play alone, which can also change the experience in the game.

Isn’t it like that in other games too? Actually it should be like this in other games too. But especially with the competition from Call of Duty and Fortnite, the rounds become more strenuous every time you win, even in casual mode. After a while I notice that I lose interest or only play when I have the energy to fully concentrate on the game.

I enjoy The Finals, but also Call of Duty and Fortnite. But on an evening after a stressful day, I would always choose The Finals again because I know that fun is guaranteed here and I don’t have to play several rounds until I get a good one.

What do you think of the SBMM in The Finals?

Did you also notice that the opponents play differently well in the different modes? The developers recently tweaked the balancing, which changed the meta in the game. You can find out more about this in this article: The Finals brings a major balancing patch, nerfs the strongest meta strategies
