After a harmless scene from The Big Bang Theory, the actor of Leonard had to cry

The Big Bang Theory is one of the biggest series of the 2010s. The stories about the nerds and their lives have captivated many people. The actors also felt connected to their roles from the very beginning, as Johnny Galecki, the actor who played Leonard, recalls in a book.

What scene does Johnny Galecki remember? Episode 6 of season 1 of The Big Bang Theory is all about Penny throwing a Halloween party. The nerd group is also invited and there are lots of jokes about the guys’ costumes and the preparation for the party.

Also invited to the party in question is Penny’s ex-boyfriend Kurt, who is pretty much the exact opposite of Leonard. The two of them get into an argument and have a funny scene that became quite emotional for Johnny Galecki, the actor who played Leonard.

Raj is one of the most important characters in the series, but as in the series, he almost didn’t exist: The Big Bang Theory: One of the most important actors was fired for no reason – but the creator brought him back

A simple joke was emotional for Galecki.

What happens in the scene in question? At the Halloween party, Leonard and Kurt get into a verbal argument. The situation escalates and Kurt lifts Leonard, disguised as a hobbit, up. Penny stops him and Leonard is visibly affected by the situation. The scene was actually intended to be funny, as the recorded laughter shows. But for Johnny Galecki, it led to an emotional reaction.

In the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series (via Looper), Galecki talked about this scene and why it touched him so much.

The fact that he lifted me up as Leonard was so touching that I cried after we shot the episode… It really dug up some old schoolyard stuff for me.

This scene reminded him of his own past, but also brought him closer to the character Leonard. From that moment on, he understood him better. This episode is also the first in which Penny and Leonard get closer. The relationship between the two became a central theme of the series.

The series ran for twelve seasons within twelve years (2007 to 2019) and was quite a success. There was even a spin-off called Young Sheldon, which has now also ended. Over the course of the series, many of the characters changed and a great deal of character development was noticeable. But what hardly changed in all the seasons was the elevator: In The Big Bang Theory, the characters had to climb stairs for 12 years – but the explosion in the elevator is not to blame
