Michael Mann has hardly been represented on the big screen in the past decade. His last directorial work was seven years (!) ago. Back then, he failed at the box office with the underrated action thriller Blackhat. With the streaming service HBO Max, he has now been able to reap great success.
Mann is one of the driving forces behind the new thriller series Tokyo Vice, which celebrated its US premiere on HBO Max in April and has been available as a stream in Germany for a few weeks via the Starzplay channel on Amazon *. Mann not only acts as a producer: he also directed the fast-paced pilot episode.
Tokyo Vice: Season 2 of the new Michael Mann series is coming
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Tokyo Vice made a lasting impression. Although HBO Max, like most streaming services, does not publish concrete numbers, the series can be considered a success. Tokyo Vice Season 2 has officially green light receive. Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe return.

The story of Tokyo Vice is based on the memoir of the same name by journalist Jake Adelstein and takes us back to the year 1999. Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) leaves his homeland, the USA, behind and moves to Tokyo, where he becomes a Crime reporter at an established daily newspaper advertises and comes into contact with the underworld.
It doesn’t take long for Adelstein to have only the Corruption on the streets of Tokyo sees. The yakuaz has entire neighborhoods under control, while even he, as a journalist, is not allowed to write about everything he sees. An alliance with the long-established investigator Hiroto Katagiri (Ken Watanabe) gives him access to explosive files.
