Since Lovefilm acquired the rights on June 21, 10 years ago, it could possibly June 20, 2023 be the expiry date of this license.
Another reason why Amazon is letting Vikings go is probably that spin off Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix. The cost of the license no longer outweighs the benefit. Because all 6 seasons of Vikings can also be streamed on Netflix and because of the spin-off, fans of the universe will mainly use Netflix for a rewatch of the original series anyway.
