Good equipment with appropriate effects is important to become stronger in Last Epoch. A player completely ignored an important mechanic because he wasn’t aware of it. And the community is surprised at how far he still came.
Crafting in Last Epoch is important for customizing certain effects of each item for your builds. It is also necessary for certain defensive stats. If you feel too weak, the solution is usually that you haven’t adjusted your items properly.
A player addressed the community on Reddit on March 18, noting that he had spent 85 hours in Last Epoch and leveled two characters. However, they are both far too weak for the endgame content.
He posts a link to his build and asks what he’s doing wrong. The community reacts with surprise that he even got this far.
In addition to crafting, the item factions also help you complete your build:
“That’s really impressive”
What is the player doing wrong? In the comments, several users note that the post creator has apparently never adjusted an item in his build. The top comment is from CloudConductor: “I’m honestly impressed that you made it this far without crafting.”
“How can you spend 85+ hours collecting crafting shards and not be like, ‘mmmm, maybe I can actually use them’ lol,” one user wrote. “The fact that you made it this far, with such poor equipment and no crafting, is truly impressive – damn dedicated.”
What does the community say about this? One user comments: “Press F and discover a whole new world.” With F you open the forge in Last Epoch – and you can even do this on the go. Several users are wondering how the player managed to completely avoid using the forge since it is even part of several quests. You are essentially “forced” to use them.
The user “soundecho944” says that in Last Epoch it is a problem to introduce new players to crafting. For veterans of Last Epoch or Path of Exile, it’s easy. However, it could use more guidance for new players. Another user agrees and writes that he was initially confused by the fact that there are blacksmiths in some cities. In principle you don’t need them at all.
Other users give tips on crafting in the comments and emphasize that it makes sense early on. “ItsRyBear” writes: “Apart from a few rare shards […] Shards are plentiful, so you can gradually upgrade your equipment. This will make your character more powerful.”
Several comments advise that you use a finished build as a guide. The strongest builds for the endgame in Last Epoch can be found here:
Several users note that crafting is simply an integral part of games in the genre. However, new players obviously need to be introduced better. In fact, some people seem to completely miss it. Some advise using the in-game guide to familiarize yourself with the basics.
At first, Last Epoch’s systems can be quite overwhelming – even, or especially if you’re coming from Diablo 4. However, everything is not as bad as it looks. Just don’t let yourself be intimidated: Last Epoch sounds really complex if you’re coming from Diablo 4 – but it’s easier than it looks
