The post-apocalyptic zombie film I Am Legend is part of Will Smith’s golden era, in which the actor’s films landed at number 1 in the box office charts eight times in a row. The Sci-fi hit with the original ending you can stream it on Amazon. However, the alternative ending has now taken on an important meaning because I Am Legend 2 is supposed to follow on from it.
I Am Legend: After a zombie attack, humanity is almost extinct
As seemingly the last person on earth, scientist Robert Neville (Smith) roams the deserted streets of New York with his loyal German Shepherd. It will be dangerous at night when the zombies become active and hunt down the duo. Despite the hopeless situation, Robert doesn’t want to give up and continues to search for a cure for which he himself could be the solution.
The two different endings of I Am Legend

I Am Legend is based on the novel of the same name by Richard Matheson, but both the ending of the cinema version and the alternative ending differ from the literary originalas Screenrant reports. In the theatrical version, Robert Neville dies, as in the novel. What is missing, however, is the moral depth of the plot.
In the alternative ending, which was released on the home cinema version, Robert’s moral failings were taken into account – but the hero survives here. This version also deviates from the novel, but is much closer to the content than the cinema version. 18 years later, part 2 is supposed to come and start right here.

In I Am Legend 2, Will Smith will return in his role and will receive support from Creed star Michael B. Jordan. Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is once again responsible for the script, who now wants to tell the return of civilization after the loneliness in part 1. As he explains in an interview, The action is supposed to begin 30 years laterwhen life has slowly returned to the big city of New York.
A zombie film that takes place years after the apocalypse will remind many of The Last of Us. This is no coincidence: Goldsman is an avowed fan of the serieswhich is based on the video game of the same name and was influenced at the time by I Am Legend. A creative circle seems to be closing here.
