Having become essential in almost 8 seasons and 11 years of broadcast, this series will soon say goodbye to Netflix. The end of filming has been announced.
Since the advent of streaming platforms which focus more on mini-series and shorter programs, it is increasingly rare to see series continue to fascinate viewers over ten years and almost as many seasons. One of them, which made Netflix’s heyday, will end in the coming months, after 8 seasons, 101 episodes and 11 years of existence.
Because the filming ofOutlander was completed at the end of last September. Since 2014, this adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, mixing history and fantasy, tells the story of a nurse from the Second World War who finds herself magically transported to 1743, while Scotland is in the grip of revolt. There she meets her husband’s ancestor, but above all a Highland warrior, and finds herself torn between two eras and two men.
Romantic, fantastic, dramatic and historical, Outlander ticks a lot of boxes to appeal to a large number of viewers. Often praised for its aesthetics and its epic production (with battle scenes and strong dramatic stakes), the series scores 91% positive opinions from the press on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.7/5 from the press and 4.2/5 from the public on Allociné.
The end of Outlander will logically create an event, especially since the longevity of the series makes it a recurring event for its fans. “More than a series, we are a family,” wrote the program’s Instagram account when the end of filming was announced last September. “And while filming has ended, this journey isn’t completely over yet, it’s only the beginning.” A spin-off, titled Blood of my blood, centered on Jamie Fraser’s parents, will indeed see the light of day soon.
However, fans still have a little time before having to say goodbye to Outlander. First, the second part of season 7 will be broadcast in the United States on November 22, 2024, and in US+24 on Netflix the next day. Thereafter, there will be an eighth and final season to devour before saying goodbye to Claire and Jamie. If filming ended in September, the online date is not yet known, but fans should logically not discover the series finale before 2025.
