After 10 years the DC Universe ends with a joke

Now the time has come: After a decade, the last film from the series is being shown: Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in German cinemas. As expected, however, this is not a final film that brings together the adventures of Superman, Wonder Woman and Co. in an epic finale.

Instead, Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom comes across as a classic sequel and follows on from the events of the first part, which hit the big screen five years ago. One superhero tradition remains at the end of the DCEU: There is a post-credits scene. Before you continue reading: Attention, follow it spoiler!

Aquaman 2’s post-credit scene revisits a recurring joke from the DC sequel

In the sequel, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) has to deal with an old acquaintance: Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). He wants to shape the world according to his ideas and enters into a pact with an evil force. Aquaman alone cannot stop the villain. He needs those Help from his half-brother.

Orm (Patrick Wilson) appeared as an antagonist in the previous film and is now stuck in a desert prison. In order to stop the new danger, Aquaman embarks on the dangerous and secret mission to save his half-brother, which is where the film begins adopts a buddy dynamic. Some jokes are cracked.

One of these jokes is about Orm having no idea what food tastes like on land. He only tastes a relatively large cockroach and is clearly delighted with the taste. However, Aquaman raves about much more. A cheeseburger seems to be the culinary height of people’s emotions.

Not a big DC cameo: Instead of Batman, there’s a cheeseburger in the end credits of Aquaman 2

During the credits, this previously established running gag gets its pay-off: Orm finally treats himself to a cheeseburger – with a special side dish. A cockroach, which runs across the table, he promptly adds to the newly discovered delicacy. After ten years, the DECU ends with this joke.

Lots of fans had hoping for a Batman appearance. Last but not least, two pieces are said to have been filmed. As the Hollywood Reporter reported in July, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck appeared in front of the camera for at least one scene each. However, neither of them appears in the finished film so as not to arouse false hopes.

No surprising guest appearance, no teaser for the next film: the Aquaman sequel stands on its own two feet and doesn’t seek connection to a larger universe. The Flash film, released in June, is suitable with its cameo parade better than DCEU conclusionbefore the big reboot follows next year.

Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom has been running since then December 21, 2023 in the cinema.
