After 10 years, Destiny 2 gives German players an unforgettable patch evening

On June 18th, Destiny: The Final Shape was supposed to be even better. The expansion was well received anyway, and on Tuesday evening, the traditional patch day, players were looking forward to the “Grandmaster version” of the 12-man activity. After 10 years, this was supposed to offer a worthy conclusion to the saga. Things turned out differently.

That was the plan: Actually, everything should run quite smoothly:

  • The harder version of the 12-player mission “Excision” should go online.
  • The servers were scheduled to be shut down at 3:45 p.m. German time.
  • You should be able to play again by 7 p.m. at the latest, just in time for the end of the working day. The downtime was already generously calculated at 3 hours and 15 minutes. That should work then.

Downtime delayed by 3 hours on Tuesday evening

How did it really happen: It was nothing. German players are always annoyed that the maintenance takes place at their prime time and steals valuable hours of gaming time in the evening. But anyone who expected to log in at 7 p.m. sharp was disappointed.

The message came at 7:44 p.m.: “We are currently investigating issues after the update was released. More information will be provided when it is available.”

Then at 8:17 p.m. the news came: The already long downtime had been extended by 2 hours.

It wasn’t until around 9:50 p.m., which was already bedtime for most German players, that things started again.

“One more thing like that and I’ll delete the crap”

How was this commented on? With a lot of patience and understanding. Just kidding. The Guardians were once again beside themselves. We have compiled the best comments from MeinMMO here.

“If we had bought more in the Eververse, we would probably all be back in the game by now” (Pat, MeinMMO)

“Guys, please, I’ve been on the ONE MOMENT PLEASE screen since 8pm. What’s going on?” (Simon90, MeinMMO)

“I’m really starting to get a tie here […] I spend a lot of money here and they can’t get back online after a 4 hour server downtime. Another thing like that next week and I’ll delete the crap.” (MachiiNRW81, MeinMMO)

“What Bungie is delivering here is just sad” (Shadowlord 85)

“So, Bungie. My moment has lasted almost 90 minutes now. How can you make a game with 340 MB crash like that?” (Enrico Willams, Facebook)

“I am le sad.” (GrenaderJake, Twitter)

“Maybe just don’t do maintenance in the middle of the day, during peak times, to avoid problems. I don’t know – just a thought.” (CoreBri, Twitter)

It’s kind of nice that some things never change. If you want to read it, one of the articles with the most comments on MeinMMO is a downtime in Destiny 2 from 2017. The players had to wait even longer: Destiny 2: Server down today – maintenance work, update 1.03 [Update]
