African Nations Championship 2023: calendar, TV channel… All the information

African Nations Championship 2023 calendar TV channel All the information

One year after CAN 2022, the African Nations Championship is on the program at the start of 2023.

No African Cup of Nations, but a championship. For its 7th edition, the African Nations Championship takes place from January 13 to February 4, 2023, in Algeria. Main difference with the CAN, the 18 national selections present are composed of the best players of the national championships. No Sadio Mané for Senegal or even Riyad Mahrez for Algeria.

Concretely, the objective is to highlight the various national championships of the countries belonging to the African football confederation. Double outgoing winner, Morocco will ultimately not participate in the competition due to a transit problem.

This edition promises to be different in format since the latter goes from sixteen to eighteen selections with three pools of four and two pools of three. The 18 teams first play a group stage, after which the winners and runners-up in groups AB and C, as well as the winners in groups D and E qualify for the knockout stage in the quarter-finals.

What are the CHAN groups?

  • Group A: Algeria, Libya, Mozambique, Ethiopia
  • Group B: Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Senegal
  • Group C: Morocco, Sudan, Madagascar, Ghana
  • Group D: Mali, Angola, Mauritania
  • Group E: Cameroon, Congo, Niger
