African documentaries in the spotlight at the Cinéma du réel festival

In a city that we guess is African, a man from behind on a scooter, a variegated red, black, green, white jacket, holds out his left arm, in a sign of combat or salvation.

This image is the poster of the Real Cinema Festivalthe major documentary festival that is back to normal, with the public, guest directors, masterclasses, meetings, at the Pompidou Center in Paris (and at the Forum des Images in association with the Tigritudes cycle).

This photogram is taken from one of the films of the program: Softiesa portrait of Kenyan political activist Boniface “Softie” Mwangi filmed by Sam Soko.

This image gives the color of the festival this year, since it is Africa that is invited through films by tutelary figures, contemporary African documentarians, carte blanche to the continent’s programmers.

To talk about it, we welcome Catherine Bizern, the general delegate of Le Réel, Alassane Diago, director of The Tears of Emigration and meet my fatheras well as Parfait Kaboré, who comes to present, After the revolt, your voteyour film shot in 2015 on the first democratic election in Burkina Faso, following the overthrow of Blaise Compaoré.
