Africa correspondent on the coup in Niger: “Very good for Wagner”

The outside world has reacted strongly to the coup d’état in Niger last week. The protest was organized by the military leadership that recently took power.

For the Russian Wagner group, this is “very good news”, says SVT’s Africa correspondent Johan Ripås.

– The Wagner group has a presence in several countries in the region and makes a lot of money from mining and timber. They have specialized in approaching less democratic leaders and taking over mines.
