The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania says that those surveyed have participated in the violation of the Vienna Convention regulating the activities of diplomats and the laws of Lithuania. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not elaborate on the exact reason for the deportations.

In 2021, Lithuania allowed Taiwan to open a liaison office comparable to a mission in Vilnius, angering China.
On Wednesday, Lithuania joined the investigation team to investigate cable damage in the Baltic Sea, according to Finland and Sweden. China has denied any involvement in them and said on Friday it was ready to cooperate with the investigation.
