The US-based social media giant Facebook has reportedly closed the accounts of the Taliban government’s television channel (RTA) and news agency Bakhtar in Afghanistan.

The Taliban government News Agency (Bakhtar) announced that Facebook has closed Bakhtar’s official account.

BAKHTAR: WE ARE PUBLISHING ACCORDING TO ALL THE RULES OF FACEBOOK

In the statement that Bakhtar published in accordance with all the rules of Facebook, it was noted that their aim was to deliver clear and inclusive information to their readers.

In the statement, it was stated that this decision taken by Facebook was to deprive Afghans of their right to freedom of the press.

On the other hand, Afghan government television channel Chairman Ahmadullah Vasik said that the Persian and Pashto accounts of the RTA television channel were closed by Facebook for no reason, and that this decision violates the law on freedom of the press.

Emphasizing that the RTA is the voice of the Afghan people, Vasik said that they wanted the Facebook administration to reopen the accounts they had closed. (AA)
