Afghan women’s anchors refuse to cover their lives on TV – performers defy new Taliban ban

Afghan womens anchors refuse to cover their lives on TV

TV anchors appeared today without a veil on a few big TV channels despite the new regulation. According to women, submitting to more and more new instructions knows more restrictions and even the end of work.

The Taliban, who adhere to a strict interpretation of Islam, restrict women’s lives in many ways, including by denying girls access to school.

However, women still in employment seem to defy the strict code of conduct. There are constantly more bans. Earlier this month, women were instructed to move around outdoors, wearing a covering burqa and also covering their face.

Also, TV performers cover their faces

This Saturday, the Taliban regime’s Ministry of Virtue Promotion also ordered female TV performers to cover their faces. In the past, a scarf covering the head has been enough in the box. At least not all presenters immediately obeyed the order.

Performers from Tolo News, Shamshad and 1TV, among others, revealed their faces.

“Our female co-workers are afraid that they will have to quit their jobs altogether,” said Shamshad TV CEO. Abid Ehsas to the AFP news agency.

Spokesman for the ordering ministry Mohammad Sadeq Akif Mohajir says women defy the law.

– If they do not obey, we have to talk to the leaders and the escorts of the performers, the spokesman added.

Soap sets out on TV

The Taliban is urging media companies to fire women if they do not comply with the new dress code. The loss of a job may also threaten men working in the administration whose family members also refuse to wear a face-covering outfit.

Television channels have pruned soap shows, plays, and music from their programming because of regulations from the Taliban regime.
