From insisting at the beginning of its takeover that women should be allowed to retain much of their freedom, the Taliban have now reversed and only in recent weeks introduced several restrictions, such as that women are not allowed to leave the home without an approved reason and are not allowed to wear anything other than a comprehensive veil in public environments.
