People can move normally between Pakistan and Afghanistan again from Saturday, after the key Torkham border crossing was opened.

The border was closed last Sunday by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, leaving people stranded. Even vehicles loaded with food and other essential goods got stuck at the crossing.

Before the decision to close, the Taliban had accused Pakistan of breaking an agreement between the two countries that sick Afghans should be allowed to freely enter Pakistan for treatment.

On Monday, shooting was reported between border guards at the crossing. A Pakistani soldier is said to have been injured. Since then, the parties have held talks to resolve the issue as people on both sides demanded that the border be opened immediately.
