“If I were to buy a luxury car, I am not sure if I would look for it in Russia,†reflected the spokesperson of the US State Department at a press conference in Washington.
A spokesman for the US State Department joked on Wednesday Vladimir Putin for the gift of a limousine to the leader of North Korea to Kim Jong-un.
At the beginning of the week, it was reported that Kim had received a limousine as a gift from the Russian president. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at the time that the gift was the Russian Aurus used by Putin as his official car. Peskov described the car as a “luxury sedan†.
The reporters asked the spokesperson of the US State Department From Matthew Miller on Wednesday for a gift in Washington.
– Actually, to be honest, I didn’t know there was such a thing as a Russian luxury car, Miller quipped and continued.
– I hope Kim got an extended warranty. If I were to buy a luxury car, I’m not sure I’d look for it in Russia, Miller thought with amusement.
Miller agreed with the statement of South Korea, a close US ally, according to which the export, donation or sale of luxury cars to North Korea is prohibited under the sanctions approved by the UN Security Council. According to Miller, it seems that Russia is once again violating the resolutions of the UN Security Council, which it itself has supported.
Kim Jong-un is said to be an avid car collector. The dictator himself uses a German-made Maybach limousine as his official car.
Relations between Russia and North Korea have warmed up after Russia started its war of aggression against Ukraine. North Korea has been suspected of supplying ammunition, grenades and missiles to Russia. Russia has neither denied nor admitted the arms deliveries.
