A case of bathhouse feet can be linked to Skistar’s adventure pool in Sälen. Now the bathhouse is closed indefinitely, reports Aftonbladet.
After a 7-year-old girl visited the bath, she began to complain of pain in her feet, which became red and swollen. During a visit to the health center, it was found that she had suffered from athlete’s foot, which is caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa – a bacterium that thrives in warm and humid environments.
The infection control unit in Region Dalarna has been informed about the case and the bath has taken samples of various surfaces in the premises. Now the adventure pool is closed while waiting for the test results. They have also implemented extra cleaning routines.
According to Region Dalarna’s infection control doctor Fredrick Rücker, it is not common for the infection to be found in bathhouses, but rather in hot tubs and bathtubs that have not been cleaned. The disease is usually mild and heals on its own. It is more common for children to be affected by the infection than adults, but it is unclear what causes this.
