Adventure cult was supposed to get a sequel after more than 20 years – but it was shattered by the Netflix computer

Adventure cult was supposed to get a sequel after more

“Computer says no” was an annoying running gag in the sketch show Little Britain that seems to have become a tragicomic reality on Netflix. At least filmmaker Brian Helgeland can tell a thing or two about it after trying to continue one of his most successful films on the streaming service.

The filmmaker known for LA Confidential is also behind a potential Game of Thrones spin-off that has been on hold for 7 years. Not a green branch in sight for the man.

Knight adventure with no prospect of a sequel, says the Netflix computer

Helgeland spoke to Inverse about a planned sequel to the film Knight of Passion, which stars the late Heath Ledger:

I pitched the idea to Sony because they have the rights to it, and it seemed like they were interested in producing it for Netflix and releasing it as a Netflix movie. As I understand it, Netflix tested the idea with its algorithm suggesting it wouldn’t be successful. But Knights of Passion seems to be becoming more popular every year; it’s really strange. What would have been the story of Knight of Passion 2?

After all, the director already had a story in mind for a pirate sequel, which he also revealed in the interview. The plot would have revolved around Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell), who kidnaps Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) to Constantinople. However, they are attacked by pirates on the way and end up on a slave ship with a rebellious prisoner a treasure map tattooed on his back has. In order to protect them, his fellow prisoners have themselves whipped in his place.

At that time, however, Sony is said to have had no interest in a sequel that was so far removed from the knight adventure. Unfortunately, we don’t know whether this would have been the plan for the rejected Netflix project.

Where can you stream Knights of Passion?

The first and only part of Knights of Passion can currently be accessed with a subscription on Sky Go and WOW.
