Adrien Quatennens LFI renounces his candidacy

This is a new twist at the end of this intense first week of the early legislative campaign. The outgoing deputy of La France Insoumise (LFI), Adrien Quatennens, renounces running. Convicted of domestic violence, his inauguration created a lively controversy within the New Popular Front which brings together left-wing forces.

The pressure had been very strong since Friday evening. Many personalities, executives of La France Insoumise but also left-wing allies had protested against this candidacy.

This Sunday, June 16 in the morning, Adrien Quatennens announced its withdrawal. “ I no longer intend for my candidacy to be used against France Insoumise and the New Popular Front. Therefore, I renounce my candidacy for the legislative elections “, did he declare.

If this relieves many people on the left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, very close to the outgoing deputy from the North, welcomes this withdrawal while reaffirming his affection for Adrien Quatennens, on the France 3 channel at midday: “ Politics is also made, apart from exemplarity, of republican virtue, the right to rehabilitation exists. And I add that on a personal level, I also believe in a society where the right to forgiveness and kindness exists. » The two men developed a father-son relationship.

This renunciation does not solve all the problems. There will be two left-wing candidates in the constituency, Aurélien LeCoq, member of the Jeunesse des Insoumis branch, nominated in place of Adrien Quatennens, and a feminist activist, Amy Bah, supported in particular by one of the rebels of LFI, Raquel Garrido, also excluded from the legislative casting. If Jean-Luc Mélenchon requests his withdrawal, she maintains his candidacy, judging the replacement not up to the challenge.
