21 of the 23 deputies of the National Assembly of Comoros passed the bill on ” the organization and functioning of political parties “. This new law regulates the functioning of the opposition and above all offers a status to its leader.

The latter will come from the opposition party which has the largest number of parliamentarians or municipal elected officials. If necessary, the leader of the opposition will be the leader of the political party having obtained the most votes cast during the last presidential election. He will therefore have human, financial and material resources linked to his position as Leader of the Opposition.

The opposition is not convinced

While the government, through its spokesperson, welcomes the adoption of such a text, Me Mahamoud Ahamada of the Juwa party, the main opposition party, believes that this law will not change anything since Azali Assoumaniis not a democrat “, according to him.

This law is the result of the assizes and the national dialogue held respectively in 2018 and 2021, which had been boycotted by the Common Front of the living forces against the dictatorship.
