Adelina Svensson works with building and demolishing festivals, and was on her way to a job in Båstad, where she borrowed a box bike from the campsite she was staying at.
– I was almost there when I drove over a bump in the street. There was a hole in the bump that the tire got stuck in. When the box swung one way, the bike went another and I flew away, says Adelina Svensson.
No feeling in the right side
For four hours she was lying on the street before the ambulance arrived, writes HD. She had no feeling in her right side and her hands went numb.
Someone made sure she was allowed to lie on a mattress, someone else pulled her away to the side of the street. People brought water and food. From the campsite they also came quickly and offered help.
An off-duty doctor who happened to be passing by volunteered to help.
– He had a neck pillow in the car and gave me painkillers. He also spoke to 112 and got really annoyed because they didn’t send an ambulance right away. But SOS Alarm just said “we do the best we can”, and called once an hour to check, says Adelina Svensson.
Didn’t care
An emergency vehicle passing by could not do anything, they would change their passport. A police car came by, but was only there for a moment.
– It was very strange. The police said “we have other things to do”, nobody cared, says Adelina Svensson.
Several times other people around her called SOS Alarm. But there was neither an ambulance nor a lay-by service that could have transported her to hospital.
– She on 112 said she called an ambulance in Halmstad, Helsingborg, Ängelholm and Båstad. The fact that four cities do not have an ambulance for four hours is like we no longer have healthcare.
Had broken the tailbone
Once the ambulance arrived, Adelina was driven to Helsingborg, where she quickly received treatment. After x-rays, several fractures were found.
– I had broken my coccyx in one place, and had two fractures higher up, and could not walk.
Since the accident on July 21, Adelina has been on sick leave. The question now is what she can work with in the future. The heavy job she had is impossible.
– The doctor said that I was unlucky in the world, if I had been older, my body would not have been able to heal the fracture in the tailbone, it is not a small crack.
Reported to the Patient Board
Now she has reported SOS Alarm to the Patient Committee. Her report is being processed.
According to SOS Alarm, there was a high workload on the day Adelina had the accident and they regret the long waiting time.
– We can see that there was a longer than usual waiting time for the ambulance. The reason is that during the same time period many 112 calls were received that were judged to be more urgent, and available ambulances were sent to higher priority patients first, says Sarah Hummerdal, press officer at SOS Alarm to HD.
