Quentin Tarantino’s Nazi hunt Inglourious Basterds is considered by many fans to be an absolute masterpiece. For one of the film’s iconic roles, however, the director had a bizarre casting idea that might have made the film even better. He wanted comedy veteran Cast Adam Sandler as the “Bear Jew” Donny Donowitz. Unfortunately the plan failed.

Tarantino revealed that detail on the Club Random podcast to comedy legend Bill Maher and fellow director Judd Apatow. Sandler’s casting in Apatow’s As It Happens was responsible for his had to turn down the role in Inglourious Basterds.

Seeing Sandler in such a brushed performance against his conventional role profile would certainly have been a highlight of the film for many viewers.
