Even before the mobilization, “Adam” was against the war, and was detained for two weeks after he put up posters with anti-war messages at his home.
When hundreds of thousands of Russian men were later drafted into the army, Adam packed a bag and headed for the woods.
The forest has been his home for four months – and despite temperatures down to minus eleven degrees, life is quite comfortable.
Adam lives in an ice fishing tent, he chops his own wood, solar panels provide him with electricity – he even works remotely for an IT company.
– I wanted there to be no physical way for the state to reach me, he says.
