Acute respiratory problems for the Pope

Pope Francis suffers from acute breathing problems, writes the Vatican, calling the situation “critical”.

The 88-year-old Pope suffers from double-sided pneumonia and has been cared for urgently in hospitals in recent weeks.

Pope Francis was hit by an isolated event that led to vomiting and which meant an acute deterioration of the respiratory problem, the Vatican writes in a statement.

The Pope “was conscious” during the emergency treatment with external respiratory assistance.
