The sports holiday means a skiing holiday in the Alps for many. But right now there is very little snow in the Alps, which makes skiing difficult.
Great lack of snow
There is a great lack of real snow. In order to keep the skiing facilities running, many countries use artificial snow.
In Italy, for example, as much as 90 percent of the snow on the slopes consists of artificial snow, in Switzerland 51 percent and in France 39 percent, which SVT Nyheter also reported on.
The numbers are rising all the time and right now it is thanks to the artificial snow that you can even ski in several places.
– Thanks to today’s technology, I can be here today skiing. But you can see for yourself, the snow is soft and it’s so hot that it’s not possible to use the snow cannons, says Alessandro Tonelli at a ski resort to SVT News.
The ski resorts are expanding their range
With the current lack of snow, several ski resorts have broadened their range.
– Everyone is working to broaden the range with mountain bikes, fishing, canoes, camping and other things. But ski tourism is fundamental. I want to believe that we can do this, with the help of increasingly better technology and snow cannons, says Giorgio Marchetti, who is the mayor of Borgo Lares, to SVT Nyheter.
On Tiktok, several people have posted videos from their skiing holidays in the Alps. On several of the Tiktok cliffs, you see more grass than snow on the slopes.
