American actress Gena Rowlands has died at the age of 94, according to Entertainment Weekly after the departure of Rowlands’ son, a film director Nick Cassavetes.
Rowlands, who acted mainly in the theater but also in many films, is best remembered for the films Faces (1968), The Best of a Woman (1974) and Gloria – gangster flick (1980), all of which were directed by her husband, a film director John Cassavetes. Rowlands was a three-time Emmy winner and two-time Oscar nominee. At the beginning of his career, he also had a role in the legendary 1960s TV series Peyton Place.
In 2004, Gena Rowlands played a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in the film The Notebook – The Pages of Love directed by her son. In June, Nick Cassavetes reported For Entertainment Weekly that his mother later contracted the disease herself and was completely demented.
