The musical star and the actor Mitzi Gaynor has passed away, writes The Wrap.

She starred in several musical films during the 1950s, the golden age of Hollywood musicals.

Mitzi Gaynor was born Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber in 1931 in Chicago. Her father was a classically trained musician with roots in Hungary and her mother was a dancer. Mitzi Gaynor took dance lessons early and signed a contract with 20th Century Fox at the age of 17.

Among other things, she had a role in the film “There’s no business like show business” against Marilyn Monroe and Ethel Merman. She played against stars like Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly and got her biggest role in “South Pacific” in 1958, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

She continued to appear on television and had several special programs of her own where she charmed the audience with song and dance – the last one aired in 2008.

She was nominated for a total of 16 Emmys.

Mitzi Gaynor was 93 years old

Gaynor married the talent scout in 1954 Jack Beanwho also became her manager. They were married until his death in 2006.
